This report, by the Newcastle Community Voluntary Sector (Newcastle CVS), explores poverty today in Newcastle, within the context of a modern society, the changes in technology, the investment in the welfare state and the new austerity. This report is drawn from what people said in interviews and discussions with Newcastle CVS and examines the broader issues and what is driving people into poverty and hardship, it asks what actions voluntary and community organisations can take individually, collectively with other organisations, and in partnership with the City Council, the emerging Clinical Commissioning Groups, the Police and Crime Commissioner and others.
